Introduction to effective discipline


Summary

Effective discipline invented statistic which intent is to unify all statistics that define army quality in EU4(such as discipline, morale, infantry combat ability etc.) into one.

It accomplishes it by comparing the most important quality stat - discipline - with all the others taking current military technology level into regard.
List of quality stats that are taken into consideration:
Relative strength of each modifier is estimated by comparing how they affect actual combat, and all other base modifiers related to it such as unit pips, base unit type casualties, terrain penalties etc. given technology level.
The complete grading table can be found in the menu at the top. To put it on simpler terms, effective discipline granted for each +1% bonus of any of first 7 modifiers from the table(morale, infantry combat ability etc.) is equal to the corresponding value in the sheet divided by 100, and in leaders' pips case by 20.

Examples:


Having +30% infantry combat ability and +1 leader fire bonuses at mil 19 would consecutively 9.6 and 2.5 effective discipline, because 32/100*30=9.6 and 50/20*1=2.5
Having +X% discipline will always give +X% effective discipline.
The model of calculating effective discipline was created by Distinct(Distinct#3799), Serenade(Serenade#3174) and QDI(QDI#9251)

Additional mechanics of the model


Grading sheet described earlier on its own can't, obviously, give a 100% depiction of how really strong someone's army is(in terms of quality), hence why effective discipline also includes following bonuses in some special cases:
